Press clippings: Croatian newspapers on the “Croatian Rambo”
Contemporary document
Editorial introduction · written for the 2026 reconstruction
These clippings were part of the photo slideshow on crorambo.com. They are the only contemporary reporting in the original archive and are the main external check on the author’s account.
A Večernji list article by Tamara Opačak-Klobučar (s57) reports that Siniša Stracaboško Dvorski, “known in the Homeland War as the Banija Rambo”, was due to leave Rijeka prison after serving 15 years. It says he was convicted of the 1996 killing in Vrsar of former tourism minister Anton Marčelo Popović. The article also says that during his sentence he asked to be heard by the Hague tribunal, and that a pardon request to President Mesić was refused in 2007. A front-page teaser (s120) reads “Ubojica Marčela Popovića danas na slobodi” (“Marčelo Popović’s killer free today”).
The author denies the killing (see “Innocent in jail for 15 years”). Newspaper names and dates for most clippings are still to be identified. The killing of Anton Marcelo Popović is also reported by the Croatian news agency Hina (see source register).
